September Class Calendar 2026

The theme for September is self-study, or svadhyaya.

What have you been learning about yourself so far this year?

Maybe you’re reflecting on everything that has happened since January and the beginning of the Gregorian calendar. Maybe your year began again with the vernal equinox in March, the new fiscal year in July, or when August’s eclipse portal finally closed.

There are so many ways to mark time. So many moments when we decide to begin again.

September invites us to pause long enough to notice who we have become between then and now.

This is the beginning of a season when we intentionally pull inward. We gather up the pieces of our growth—the lessons, the questions, the patterns, the surprises—and carry them into the temple within ourselves for deeper reflection.

For some of us, this is also the literal beginning of a new academic year. Maybe you’re going back to school. Maybe your children are. Maybe someone you love is stepping into a new classroom, routine, or chapter. Even if nobody in your life is headed back to school, there is still something about September that feels like opening a fresh notebook.

A chance to regroup.
A chance to refocus.
A chance to see what all of this living has taught you.

We are entering the final quarter of the Gregorian year, and a lot has happened. You have lived through moments you expected and moments you never could have planned for. You have changed in ways that may be obvious and in quieter ways you are only beginning to recognize.

Self-study asks us to pay attention to all of it.

Not so we can grade ourselves. Not so we can turn our lives into another project to perfect. Not so we can find new reasons to criticize the choices we made before we knew what we know now.

We study ourselves so we can know all of ourselves.

So we can recognize what makes us feel alive. What leaves us depleted. What we keep returning to. What we are ready to release. What we need more of. What has become impossible to ignore.

This month, we’re asking:

What have you learned?

Who are you becoming?

What do you need now?

You don’t need immediate answers. Self-study is not a test, and there is no deadline for figuring yourself out. There is a deep beauty in this lifelong quest. Allow yourself to sit with the questions. To change your mind. To discover that something you once believed about yourself is no longer true.

September is an invitation to come home to yourself with curiosity.

Bring everything you’ve gathered this year into the temple within you. Set it down. Look closely. Listen deeply.

There is still so much of you waiting to be known.

We’ll see you and your questions on the mat.
