108 New Year Manifestation Ritual

Look. We love a cute manifestation moment as much as anyone. Give us a candle, a playlist, a moon phase, and we’re already halfway transported. There are infinite ways to create intention. All of them sacred and all powerful in their own right.

But sometimes our spirits want something… spicier. Sweatier. A little more feral. Something that pulls us into our bodies so deeply that we can’t help but hear ourselves again.

Enter: 108 Sun Salutations. A ritual that whispers, “Come meet yourself. Come remember what you’re made of.”

What Is a 108 — and for that matter, what even is a Sun Salutation?

Before we get all magical and feral, let’s get grounded.

A Sun Salutation is a simple sequence of movements linked with your breath. Think of it as a little moving prayer: you reach up, you fold forward, you step back, you lift your heart, you land in Down Dog, and then you make your way back up again. One loop. One breath cycle. One full-body hello.

A 108 is just that same loop repeated 108 times.

It sounds straightforward — and in a way, it is. But the power isn’t in the choreography. It’s in the repetition, the breath, and the way your inner world starts talking to you somewhere around round 15… or round 47… or round I’ll just sit in child’s pose this time, thank you.

(One of my most powerful experiences with this ritual came from not doing the Sun Sal. Instead, I uncovered a whole story about rest: that it’s lazy, that if I stop I won’t start again, that if I can’t muscle through then something is wrong with me. The list goes on.

But when I gifted my body Child’s Pose while Jessamyn flowed, I found a different truth about resilience and nurture. I did start again. And giving my body what it needed in that moment—choosing to honor and listen—became the beginning of a deep shift in the stories I tell myself.)

Sun Salutations warm the body. 108 Sun Salutations take you, body and spirit, on an entire journey within.

They teach us presence, endurance, surrender, and the art of listening inward. It’s a ritual, not a performance — a chance to meet ourselves again and again, breath by breath.

Why 108? Because The Universe Has a Favorite Number

Traditionally, 108 shows up across spiritual and cultural lineages. Some say:

1 – The Self
0 – The Great Mystery
8 – Infinity

Put them together and you have a number that feels like a portal — a reminder that we are connected to everything and nothing and all the potential in between.

Whether or not we geek out on numerology, the truth is:
108 round-trips through our own breath will show us something. Something tender. Something spicy. Always something real.

How We Do It at The Underbelly: A Ritual for Our Becoming

This isn’t about “doing yoga the right way.” As if a “right way” even exists. This is about listening to ourselves through movement. Letting our intuition speak in breath and heat and sensation. Claiming the lives we long for with our whole bodies. Feel free to practice along or put it on in the background as meditative grounding or some combination that feels true for you.

Our ritual unfolds in three parts:

1. Intention-Setting Workshop

We journal, breathe, and uncover the desires we’ve tucked behind politeness or fear. This is the moment we stop pretending and start participating in our own lives - journaling is some of my favorite way to yoga. And don’t worry, we are setting you up with prompts to Remember, Acknowledge, Release, Choose, and Commit.

2. 108 Introduction & Modifications

Modifications, pacing, props, rest. Everything we need to make this ritual sustainable and sacred for our bodies. Including class recommendations to warm you up and get ready for the week.

3. 108 Sun Salutations Practice

A guided ritual that holds us through the highs, lows, tantrums, breakthroughs, and quiet revelations. A place to meet the parts of ourselves that have been waiting to be seen.

Why This Ritual Supports Manifestation

Manifestation isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some of us script. Some of us meditate. Some of us collage like our lives depend on it. We walk, we dance, we sit with the trees. We hug our loves, we hold our fur babies, we shake with tears and laughter.

This ritual is simply another doorway — one that lives inside our bodies.

108 rounds helps us:

Clear emotional buildup

Feel our resilience in real time

Connect breath to intention

Regulate the nervous system so our desires feel safe

Move from wanting → becoming

It’s not “better” than other practices. It’s just its own flavor of holy — earthy, sweaty, cosmic, and wildly intimate.

A Few Tips - from the existential crisis in the middle of 108

  • Start slower than your ego wants.
Your body is wise. Follow it.

  • Modify with abandon. Every version you choose is valid and sacred.

  • Rest early. Rest often. A dramatic collapse into Child’s Pose is sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do.

  • Let your intentions be slightly terrifying, in a good way. Big dreams deserve a big breath.

  • Let your feelings be feral. Crying, sweating, laughing, quietly swearing — all part of the spell.

And remember: this ritual won’t instantly fix your life.
(It probably won’t even fix your morning.)

Let it peel back the layers between you and yourself. Let it help you hear what your body has been whispering. It will ask you to stay with yourself long enough to feel the truth.

And on the other side, you emerge — tender, powerful, cracked open in the best way — finally remembering what you’re capable of.
