July Guided Practice with UB

There’s something about the word flow that feels good in your mouth. It rolls out smooth, like water slipping downstream. Effortless. Even a little seductive. No tension. No doubt. Just trust.

But let’s be honest—trust doesn’t always come easy.

This July, we’re leaning into that edge. Not just into stillness, but into movement that stirs something inside. The calendar’s been crafted to pull you closer to yourself, class by class, breath by breath. Each one is a quiet little dare: Can you stay with yourself just a little longer? Can you let go before you're ready?

Not because it’s easy. But because something true lives in that freefall.

For me, this theme couldn’t be more personal. I can see the river. I feel it calling. And I know the kind of peace that comes with letting go. But just when I think I’m ready to fall into it, panic grabs me by the collar. My brain scrambles for control. My ego starts doing cartwheels, trying to fix, manage, hold. That tight grip? That’s the exact place where yoga meets us.

Yoga never promised to erase the panic. It teaches us how to spot it. How to sit right there in the middle of the clutch and take one breath, maybe two, and soften. Just enough to feel the current still moving beneath you.

That’s all we’re practicing this month. Not mastering the flow. Just remembering—remembering that we already know how to be in the water. That maybe we never stopped.

so here’s your permission slip:

Come as you are. Tired. Loud. Scattered. Still figuring it out. Let the mat carry what you can’t.
Let your body speak. Let your breath bring you back.
You don’t have to get it right. You just have to show up.

something to try right now

You don’t need a mat. You don’t need to feel ready. Just give yourself two minutes.

Wherever you are, let your hands open—palms up.
Rest them on your thighs or by your sides.
Feel that rawness. That small act of letting go.

Now breathe:

  • Inhale through your nose for four counts

  • Hold for four

  • Exhale out the mouth for six

Do it again. Then once more. Three rounds.
Let the exhale drag a little. Let your jaw unclench. Let your shoulders sink.

That’s it.
That’s the practice.
That’s trust, in a tiny moment.

We’re not here to be perfect. We’re here to be real.
To feel. To soften. To stay.

This is the yoga.

We love you. 💜
